[E]quifax is one of the three major credit reporting agencies which provides information used on your credit report. It has a credit score which will impact your ability to get approved for new credit. All of these agencies aren’t the same, so here is some information you should know about Equifax.
Equifax is headquartered out of Atlanta, Georgia. It has been around since 1899. Many lenders use Equifax to determine creditworthiness for customers. This agency provides a report directly to consumers today. You can go to the company’s website and request a copy for a price. You can even pay a little more to get the credit score which accompanies the report. There are several products offered, which is ideal for people who are serious about improving their credit or monitoring it.
What Makes Equifax Different?
In many ways, Equifax is similar to the other two agencies. However, some creditors report only to Equifax, so it may contain information not found with Experian or TransUnion. It is also the agency more creditors turn to if they want to view your credit history.
It’s important to review your credit report from Equifax before you make any large purchases or apply for credit. If you find errors on your report, you can contact Equifax directly to have them removed. If you can provide proof of the errors, they can get fixed immediately. Otherwise, the agency will have to start an investigation. Most errors are fixed within 30 days.
Each credit report is unique and look different. It can take a bit for you to understand how the accounts are set up and how to read the information. While all three agencies report basically the same thing, it can look confusing when you compare one to the other. You’ll see your outstanding balance, date of last payment and other information which accompanies each account. Just make sure everything is accurate so creditors get the correct picture of your credit history.
